Vides Konsultāciju Birojs Ltd (VKB) is one of the few companies in Latvia that provides a full cycle of environmental remediation (environmental clean-up). We do not just consult, but carry out real, technical clean-up work, turning degraded and hazardous sites into a safe environment for further development, because pollution is not just a visual or ecological problem, but a serious legal burden and financial risk for any landowner or developer.

The NSC works on sites that require high precision and responsibility, such as petrol stations, emergency sites, as well as former factories and military installations. Our approach is based on scientifically sound methods.
We excavate, sort and transport contaminated soil to specialised landfills. Where excavation is not possible (e.g. under building foundations or in active industrial areas), we use modern in situ remediation methods. This means that the soil is cleaned on site by injecting micro-organisms or chemical agents that break down the contamination without interfering with the company’s day-to-day operations.
Contamination in groundwater is variable, mobile and can poison neighbouring properties or drinking water sources. We design and install hydraulic barriers and pumping systems. Contaminated water is brought to the surface through special boreholes, treated with filters or reagents and returned to the environment clean or, depending on the situation, removed for treatment ex-situ.
In Latvia, there are still many “legacies of the past”, such as abandoned oil bases, pesticide warehouses or former army sites. We have unique experience in dealing with petroleum products, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants and specific chemicals that have been in the soil for decades.
Spills from tankers or pipelines require an immediate response. Our experts are able to quickly cordon off the site to stop the spread of contamination and carry out primary clean-up operations, minimising damage to the environment and the owner.
Every situation is unique, so standard solutions to environmental clean-up are often ineffective. We combine geological expertise with engineering capabilities to find the most cost-effective solution.
We often use biological treatment methods, which are environmentally friendly and clean up the environment using natural processes. In more difficult cases, we use physico-chemical methods such as soil washing or oxidation. All technologies used are adapted from proven US and Western European practices, taking into account the specifics of Latvia’s climate and geology.
It is important for the client to feel safe throughout the process. We ensure full transparency of the process and take charge of communication with public authorities.
Before starting work, we carry out a thorough environmental study. We determine the location, depth and migration routes of the contamination. This allows you to calculate costs accurately and avoid unpleasant surprises during the work.
We prepare a technical design and a work plan, which we coordinate with the State Environmental Service. We keep the paperwork in order so you can focus on your business.
Continuous monitoring during the clean-up. We monitor the indicators to make sure the chosen method is working effectively.
After completion, we carry out independent control analyses in an accredited laboratory. This is the basis for the final report, which officially confirms that the site is clean and free from encumbrances.
